Nei dintorni di Azzone

Around Azzone

An interesting and scenic itinerary suitable for everyone. Also suitable for families with children willing to walk on moderately difficult trails for at least 2.5 hours.

Starting point

The itinerary starts and ends in the main square of Azzone. There are few parkings spots available here.

Route

From here, take Via Santi towards Schilpario and continue to the crossroads; then turn right onto the road that gradually climbs uphill. After passing the village center, you will reach another junction: turn right and continue uphill along Via Pizzo Camino. The road then becomes flat; continue until you reach the arched bridge.

From here, turn right and go up over the arched bridge, continue uphill and at the first junction turn right. Follow the road uphill for about 800 m, cross the stream and continue with a steeper climb. Continue past the farmhouse (Baita Anita), visible on the right through the vegetation, and head toward the hairpin bend. At the bend, leave the road by turning right and start descending along the path. Continue downhill until you reach the Azzone sports field; here turn left and follow the comfortable dirt road, first slightly uphill and then flat, which leads into the Giovetto park.

Pass the building of the Furfì Sawmill, recently renovated, where timber from the forests of Giovetto and Negrino was once processed.

Continuing on, you will reach the entrance to the Giovetto Forest Reserve, identifiable by a dark wooden sign. Here you can make use of the picnic area.

Return

From here, you can return by retracing the route back to the Azzone sports field, go around it keeping to the left, continue past the cemetery and reach the church, which is certainly worth a visit. After the church, proceed downhill until you reach again the main square. After the hike you can take a break or have a snack at one of the two local shops and bars: La bottega di Azzone and Sapori Scalvini.
