Ferrata della Porta
The Ferrata della Porta crosses the northeast face of the Presolana (the “Queen of the Orobie Alps”), a unique and fascinating Dolomite-like environment. This side of the mountain is wild and austere; in fact, even in late summer, you may encounter snow couloirs that persist for a long time. The climb is demanding and long overall, especially if tackled as a traverse from Colere to the Presolana Pass, passing over the summit of Mount Visolo.
Route Details
From Colere, you can reach the Albani Refuge via ski lift or hiking trail. From the refuge, descend slightly toward the old mining huts and follow the signs for “Passo della Porta.”
You will soon reach the start of the route, where the challenges begin immediately. While the technical difficulties are not extreme, the environment is rugged and high-alpine. Ladders and iron rungs assist with the ascent. Following stretches of trail, you will reach the highest point of the ferrata in the area known as “Fopù.” From there, you can continue toward Mount Visolo for the subsequent descent or head back toward the refuge.
