Teveno – Malga Polzone – Albani Hut
An alternative to the climb to Albani refuge from Colere, with unforgettable views and landscapes, among the rock formations of the ‘Mare in burrasca’ (Stormy Sea) and unspoilt nature!
Departure
The starting point for this excursion is the hamlet of Teveno in Vilminore di Scalve, which can be easily reached by car. You can leave your car near the car park just after the sports field, at these coordinates CAR PARK
Route
From here, take the unpaved road that leads from Teveno to Colere, crossing the Valnotte forest. The trail starts about a hundred metres after the road and climbs westwards. After the first 50 metres of uphill walking through the woods, the trail becomes easier, winding through meadows and woods and passing two mountain huts, the second of which has a fresco dating back to 1861.
The trail continues into the woods, passing several clearings and small valleys, offering views of the Redorta-Coca mountain range, as well as various views of the valley, the village of Teveno, and the Gleno dam.
After crossing the small valley, continue to the edge of a second depression, which you must skirt around, heading towards a large limestone boulder. Here, turn right and you will come out onto the Colere downhill slopes, just above the new Chalet Colere 1600. At this point, you will cross the CAi 404 trail, which climbs from Colere and continues towards Val Conchetta.
Here, the north face of Presolana stands out in front of us, towards which we will continue. Passing the mountain huts and the first two refuges, we arrive at the junction with trail 403, which merges with trail 406, forming a single common route. After the last stretch of the climb, past a debris channel (Funtanù), you will reach the Polzone mountain hut, crossing paths 401 and 402, which in turn merge with the route. From here, in a few minutes, you will reach the Albani mountain hut, the destination of the itinerary.
Return
For the return journey, we recommend following the same route as the ascent, although alternatively it would be possible to descend from the Albani refuge towards Colere (CAI trails 404-403) and return to Teveno along the road or the Valnotte trail. In this case, the hike would be extended by about 1 hour/1 hour and a half compared to the proposed return journey.
Starting from Teveno or after your return, we recommend a stop at Osteria Bastioli, while returning from Colere, you can stop at Pub Nevada, unless you have already opted for lunch at the refuge 🙂
