Vilminore di Scalve- Gleno Dam
Gleno Dam is located at the foot of Mount Gleno, one of the main peaks of the Orobie Alps, reaching an altitude of 2,882 m. This is a unique and historically rich excursion. The trek to the Gleno Dam combines the natural beauty of the Val di Scalve with the memory of the immense Gleno Dam tragedy. The variant from Vilminore connects to trail 411 starting from Pianezza, adding an initial section to the hike from Vilminore to Pianezza.
Route:
From Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII, cross the historic center of Vilminore, going past the church. From here, take route no. 4a, the Sentiero delle Cappellette, marked by small chapels representing the Stations of the Cross. Once you reach the sepulcher, follow a road leading toward Meto. At the curve, before reaching the small village, you will find the start of the trail to Pianezza, indicated by a sign.
Once in Pianezza, pass the fountain in the square and take the road immediately behind the village, following trail CAI 411. The path initially crosses meadows and passes some mountain huts until it reaches a mule track. Then continue along the trail through the forest, following the pipe of the pressurized conduit until reaching the Pagarulì area (1,507 m), recognizable by a concrete structure from which the conduit starts. At this point, the trail flattens out and, being at the edge of the mountain, offers breathtaking views; after about 20 minutes, you reach the Dam.
To return to the starting point, you can descend along the same trail you used to ascend, or make a loop by descending via Nona, Bueggio, or Pezzolo, consulting the other available routes.
