Nona – Diga del Gleno hiking trail

Gleno Dam is located at the foot of Mount Gleno, one of the main peaks of the Orobie Alps. This is a unique and historically rich excursion. The trek to the Gleno Dam combines the natural beauty of the Val di Scalve with the memory of the immense tragedy. Compared to the classic Pianezza–Dam route (CAI 411), the ascent from Nona involves less elevation gain and, although slightly longer, is more suitable for those who have more difficulty with steep climbs.

Route:

The hamlet of Nona can be reached from Vilminore di Scalve by taking the road to Oltrepovo and following it for 7 km. Alternatively, for those coming from Passo della Presolana, it is recommended to follow the road to Colere; once there, continue to Teveno and then follow the signs to Nona.
After crossing the entire village of Nona, you reach a parking area where you can leave your car. The trail starts 50 meters past the Parish Church on the right. After a short descent, you reach a junction where you must turn left. About 100 meters later, there is a second junction where you again keep left by taking the right path, following the “Corne Strette” trail that leads to Vilminore.
After passing the ancient settlement of Designo, continue along a beautiful flat road for about 1 km until, after a short climb, you reach a clearing with a sign to the Gleno Dam on the right. The trail continues with an uphill section across a meadow and then through the forest. After this, the path is more or less flat with minor elevation changes, except for some rocky sections equipped with barriers and handrails. The final stretch, shared with trails from Ponte del Gleno, is uphill and leads to the dam ruins, which must be followed on the left. To return to the starting point, you can retrace the same route, or alternatively, we recommend descending along trail 410 to Ponte del Gleno and then taking the “Corne Strette” trail back up to Nona.
