Cimon della Bagozza from Passo di Valzellazzo

The Cimon della Bagozza is a 2407m mountain belonging to the Camino-Concarena group, and it separates the Val di Scalve (Bergamo) from the Val Camonica (Brescia).

The hike involves crossing from the Valzellazzo Bivouac (inaugurated in 2017) to the summit and the return from scree slope of the normal route, creating a loop trail with breathtaking views over Val di Scalve.

Recommended for:

The hike is suitable for expert hikers (EE), not so much because of the distance (about 8 km), the difference in altitude (around 1000 m), or the time required (about 6 hours), but because of the challenging section between Passo di Valzellazzo and the summit of Bagozza, which features particularly exposed, slippery, and poorly visible terrain.

This loop route follows a marked trail and scree slope.

Main stops:

The hike starts and ends at Cimalbosco, located about 8 km beyond the town of Schilpario, in the direction of Passo del Vivione. Cimalbosco can also be recognized by the start of the mule track leading to Passo dei Campelli.

The route includes through the following points: Schilpario (Cimalbosco), Passo di Valzellazzo, Cimon della Bagozza, Passo delle Ortiche, Schilpario.

There is no water available along the trail. The only potential support points are the bivouac itself and the Bagozza refuge.

Recommended equipment:

Hiking boots and trekking poles are recommended.
No mountaineering equipment is needed.

Passo del Valzellazzo – 10.00 AM – 2016m;
LUNCH: Cimon della Bagozza – 12.00 PM – 2407m (packed lunch break until 1:00 PM);
ARRIVAL: Schilpario (Cimalbosco – road to Passo del Vivione) – 3.00 PM – 1550m.
