Museo dell’Illuminazione Mineraria

A visit to the Mining Lighting Museum is the perfect complement to the Schilpario Mines tour, allowing visitors to learn about and relive the natural and human history linked to mining work..

Inaugurated on May 19, 2018, the Schilpario Museum is the first Mining Lighting Museum in Europe!
Set up in a 250 sqm exhibition space, the museum houses over 2,000 mining lamps, as well as mine carts, helmets, telephones, and vintage photographs. Each displayed item helps visitors imagine and understand the hard working conditions of miners.

The first challenge humans faced when entering the depths of the earth was the absence of light and complete darkness. This led to the need to create forms of lightning, which over the millennia and centuries became increasingly efficient, practical, durable, and safe – a necessity for those working underground.
There are many types of mining lamps, depending on the different historical periods and the type of mine they were used in. From ancient oil lamps to more reliable acetylene lamps, the museum shows the evolution of mining lighting technology.

For school groups, educational workshops can be arranged at the museum after the guided mine tour. These workshops cover topics such as local geology, metalworking and smelting, and the history of mining lighting.

Per l’estate 2025 il museo dell’illuminazione mineraria è aperto nei fine settimana, e nel periodo centrale di agosto. Per informazioni o visite contattare Ski Mine.
