Tour of Pizzo Camino


The tour of Pizzo Camino is a hike that completes a full circuit around the mountain group of the same name.
Starting and ending in the Val di Scalve, the route also passes through the neighboring Val Camonica.


Recommended for:

This excursion is recommended for experienced hikers (EE) due to the distance (about 20 km), elevation gain (about 1600 m), duration (around 8 hours) and a short but challenging section before and after Passo di Varicla (terrain is particularly uneven and steep).

The entire route follows marked trails, which have been recently improved.


Main stops:

The hike passes through the following points:
Schilpario, Malga di Voia, Passo di Corna Buca, Passo di Varicla, Rifugio Laeng, Rifugio San Fermo, Passo del Giovetto, Passo di Corna Buca and back to Schilpario.

Water is available (small streams crossing the trail) only in the section between Rifugio San Fermo and Passo di Corna Buca.


Recommended equipment:

Shoes and poles are recommended.
No mountaineering equipment is necessary.


Points of interest, timing, and elevations:

  • Departure: Schilpario trail no. 423 (above Piazzale degli Alpini) – 7:00 AM -1135 m;
  • Passo di Corna Buca – 8.30 AM – 1935 m;
  • Passo di Varicla – 10.00 AM – 2160 m;
  • Rifugio Laeng – 11.00 AM – 1764 m;
  • Rifugio San Fermo – 12.00 PM (lunch break until 1:30 PM) – 1865m;
  • Passo di Corna Buca – 2.30 PM – 1935m;
  • Arrival: Schilpario (above Piazzale degli Alpini) – 4:00 PM – 1135 m.
